Coronavirus in Nigeria: NYSC Shuts Downlines Camps 2 weeks earlier than expected

The fear of Coronavirus is the beginning of wisdom at this critical stage. According to a reliable source in the National Youth Service Corp setup, a memo has been sent across to all LGIs across the nation to cancel the ongoing 4 week’s compulsory orientation camping in various cities of the nation. Coronavirus in Nigeria: NYSC Shuts Downlines Camps 2 weeks earlier than expected This came as a rapid response to the novel community transmitted COVID-19 outbreak. Yesterday, Lagos state recorded the third case of Coronavirus and the rate at which its spreading across the world is more than enough to make you worry. It’s always better to be prepared as against getting caught unaware…this is what NYSC are trying to do. The implication of this camp closure means there’s going to be earlier deployment of youth corpers to their various place of primary assignment (PPA), the exercise which was earlier scheduled to be held in two to three weeks time. The memo instructed the existing to rally up support travel to various camps to pick the new set of corpers. But we have a concern about this development. As we all know that this is a great move, our concern is, will NYSC make provision for the protection of these Papas and Mamas that are assigned to go on this rescue mission. Are they going to make provision for protection masks, hand sanitizers, provide enough awareness of this virus so these people could be prepared for what could happen. As you all know that a large gathering of people is where this virus thrives, exposing these people to a large gathering without provision for protection could cause another issue. And will they make provision for Coronavirus testing kit for the incoming corpers at the camp to ascertain if they are hale and healthy before being deployed to their respective PPAs? A proper test must be carried out on all these incoming corpers and those who were assigned to transport them from the camp to the PPA in order to protect lives. We must not allow the virus to have its freedom of movement amongst us. That is the only way to keep Nigeria clean of Covid-19.
