Oyo approves construction of four ultra-modern bus terminals across the state

In its efforts to become mega city, Oyo state government has approved the construction of four ultra-modern bus terminals to cater for the growing demand of the popular south-western state.

In a memo made available to the press through Mr. Taiwo Adisa, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Seyi Makinde, Oyo State has commenced the next stage of modernizing the state transport system through the construction of four new ultra-modern bus terminals.

Sofo.ng has learned that the Oyo state government under the leadership of His Excellency, Engineer Seyi Makinde has approved the construction of four ultra-modern bus terminals that will ease the movement of people and business operations across the state. The state commissioner has confirmed that it is going to be a one of kind by saying; …it’s a one-stop-shop.

In its efforts to become mega-city, the Oyo state government has approved the construction of four ultra-modern bus terminals to cater to the growing demand of the popular south-western state.

The Oyo State Executive Council, on Tuesday, approved the award of the contract for the construction of four Ultra-modern Bus Terminals to be located in Iwo Road, Challenge, New Ife Road, and Ojoo.

The state’s Commissioner for Public Works, Infrastructure and Transport, Prof. Raphael Afonja, who stated this while speaking shortly after the day’s meeting of the State Executive Council, said that shop owners who will be affected by demolitions at the different locations would be considered for shop allocations when the new terminal is ready.

He stated that the bus terminals, also to be known as transport interchanges, will not only address problems associated with transportation in Ibadan, the state capital, they will also address security issues.

A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Seyi Makinde, Mr. Taiwo Adisa, quoted the commissioner as saying that the four Ultra-Modern Bus Terminals would redefine the skyline of the State capital, enhance security and the quality of life in the transport sector.

According to him, the Bus Terminals would incorporate Restaurants, Shops, Automated Teller Machine (ATM) galleries, and Café, among others.

Afonja said:

“The State Executive Council today (Tuesday) approved the award of the contract for the construction of four ultra-modern bus terminals that will include galleries for Automated Teller Machines, restaurants, and shops.

He opined that the new bus terminals will not only open doors of opportunities for businesses within the state to flourish, but it will also enhance the lives of the citizens.

“The purpose is also to collapse the transport units into ultra-modern bus terminals, beautify the skyline and also for security purposes. As you can see, the terminals are strategically located.

He stressed further itemizing how the bus operations will work, saying;

“They will also help the operations of the big buses that will soon start operation in the state. The four terminals combine the major inter-state transport units and that is why we are focusing on them.

Mr. Afonja also mentioned the state government’s effort to curb concurrent fire outbreaks in the state by upgrading the fire service department to an agency with the ability to cater to emergencies in the stage.

“The state government has also upgraded the Fire Department to an Agency.”

In other news, Oyo State is one of the fastest-growing states in the country based on IGR and leadership qualities. Yesterday, the PDP led administration reacted to opposition party chieftain’s accusation over Governor Seyi Makinde’s progress in the past eleven months in the office.

In its efforts to ease movement, the approval of the four ultra-modern bus terminals construction will cater for growing demand on quality mode of mobility across the state.
