Olaniyi Afonja is arguably one of the best funny actor in the Nigerian movie industry in this our generation. He is also one of the most sought after actors that fans are always seeking. A man who knows how to do his job and get the accolades from the people, not everyone knows the story of the comic actor and his various struggles due to a lack of proper tertiary education and his facial marks which many refers to as tribal marks. 

Sanyeri as he is popularly known amongst his fans, was born in Oyo state. He had his basic education at the St. Michael primary school and proceed to Durbar grammar school where he obtained his school leaving certificate. The actor have however not attended a tertiary institution whatsoever. In a movie industry that places much emphasis on education one cannot but wonder how Sanyeri’s career would have been affected. 

Also the actor popularly known for his hit movie “Opa kan” has also suffered from various intimidations and abuse for his tribal marks, a comic part of this can be seen in various movies he has featured in where he is constantly bashed in regards to his tribal marks. 

For Sanyeri, his educational background and facial marks has hindered him a lot because for him, his brand would have become bigger had it been that he was educated, also had it been that he was educated, he would have been able to take part in Nigerian English movies just like his other Yoruba movie actors like Odunlade Adekola and Bigval Jokotade, Yemi Solade amongst others.

For him, his lack of education has had two major impact on his career and this include; restricting his career from becoming bigger than it is and restricting him to acting and taking part in most times Yoruba movies. 

Also concerning his tribal marks, the actor has faced a lot of challenges among which include people telling him not to take part in movie acting because people won’t want to watch movies that features a man with tribal marks, it even got to a point where he was advised to go and learn how to edit or be among the crew that handle things behind the camera pointing to the fact that Sanyeri’s stature and facial marks is not something that people want to see in movies. 

Although the Yoruba movie actor has faced a lot of challenges due to his lack of education and his tribal marks, yet his determination and passion for acting and his belief in God are the major two factors that kept him going till today, it is of no doubt that Sanyeri is among the keenly sought after comic actor in the Yoruba movie industry.
