Dave Umahi the governor of Ebonyi state has tested positive for COVID-19.
The Governor confirmed this on Saturday in a statement signed by him.
He also disclosed that few of his aides were also tested for the virus.
The governor revealed that the virus was asymptomatic to him and few of his aides as they didn’t show any symptoms of the virus but have isolated themselves in line with the protocols stated by the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC).
Umahi enjoined the residents of the state to strictly observe COVID-19 precautionary measures as stated by NCDC.
But he had earlier to cabinet members that, “If I test positive, my deputy will carry on with the fight as a frontline worker, but we will be extremely careful and use zoom to do our jobs. No retreat, no surrender! We will fight this COVID-19 matter to the end.”
“We will have the public hearing on our proposed plan of the COVID-19 fight next week and either me or my deputy will head the meeting, and I will contribute through zoom, if I test positive.”
In another development in Abia state the Governor has tested negative for the virus.
In a statement by the Commissioner for information Chief John Okiyi Kalu he said, “To the glory of God, repeat COVID-19 test conducted by Nigeria Center for Disease Control, NCDC, on samples submitted by Governor Okezie Ikpeazu on Thursday, July 2, returned negative result on Friday, July 3″.
“Governor Ikpeazu is, therefore, deemed free of the virus according to the extant guidelines of NCDC and the World Health Organization, WHO.”
The governor had spent 3 weeks in the isolation center after testing positive for the virus on June 8. But received a negative result by Nigeria Center for Diseases Control. NCDC.
