Neymar Jr return to Barcelona this summer is very unlikely, this was said by the club’s president Josep Mario Bartomeu.
The former Santos player had left Barcelona for Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint German for a world record fee of €222m in 2017.
The Brazilian has been heavily linked back to the club since last summer but didn’t happen.
However the La Liga club president has said that due to the economic impact by the coronavirus pandemic on footballing finances it is almost impossible.
While speaking on Spanish media (RAC 1) he said, “Such an operation is unlikely because the situation of all the clubs in Europe is very difficult,”
When asked about the club’s center forward target Lautaro Martinez he refused to speak on that.
Lionel Messi’s Argentina team-mate is said to have a €111m release clause in his contract, but that is thought to expire on Tuesday, and it has been reported by various media outlets that Barcelona will not try to activate it before the deadline passes.
When asked about Lautaro he said, I’m not talking about transfers,”We have not marked the signings in the calendar on when they should be.”
Although a new player who would be joining the club this summer, Miralem Pjanic of Juventus was swapped with the club’s 23 year old midfielder Arthur Melo with Juventus giving an additional payment of about €12m.
The swap deal has been criticized by many given that Pjanic is about 7 years older than Arthur Melo suggesting that the deal was done to balance the club’s records.
But the president has said that wasn’t the case stating that Miralem Pjanic had been a long term target by the club.
He said, “Pjanic is a player who has wanted to sign for a long time, he was highly sought after and there is a Barca player who wants Juve,” Bartomeu explained”.
“But it is an exceptional situation. It is not to balance balances because we would have sold other players for whom we had offers. Arthur is a player who is highly valued.”
Miralem Pjanic has been pivotal to the Juventus current squad having played 38 matches in all competitions.
The Bosnian is known for wide passes and very technical in set pieces.
