The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has yesterday warned that the Nigerian police would continue with the lockdown enforcement order issued by the President Muhammadu Buhari in three states of the federation including Lagos, Ogun, and the Federal Capital Territory during the Easter break to curb the spread of novel COVID-19 pandemic, otherwise known as coronavirus.
He also made it know that this decision will also take effects in other states that have declared lockdown within their domains in order to prevent the spread during the festive season.
In a statement signed by the Nigerian Police Force PRO, DCO Frank Mba, the IGP directed the Commissioner of Police in the affected states where the lockdown is in effect to continue with their duty of enforcing the orders of the president and the respective state governors.
While congratulating the Christians, as Christiandom celebrates the crucifixion, the death, and the resurrection of Jesus Christ, the IGP called on religious leaders all over the country to continue in their cooperation with relevant government agencies assigned to work in curbing the outbreak and use their platforms to encourage their followers in observing the social restriction and worship from their homes. He called on religious leaders to make necessary provisions for reaching the Worshippers in their homes as opposed to social gatherings that have been forbidden during this pandemic.
According to him, this decision became necessary in a time like this in order to curtail the community spread of the deadly virus that has taken many lives in Italy and the rest of the world.
“The IGP noted that the Covid-19 pandemic has immensely challenged our existence, across all spheres of life, hence, we only can work together in curbing and preventing it from spreading further.”

‘’The IGP expresses deep concerns that for the first time in our history, circumstances have compelled us to emplace restrictions on social gatherings, which inevitably is also affecting religious programs of all faiths,’’ the statement said.
