Benue State Executive Council gives go ahead for reopening of schools

At the end of the weekly state executive council meeting on Wednesday in Makurdi, the benue SEC has given permission for partial reopening of schools.

This was made known by the state commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism Mrs Ngunan Addingi saying schools would be opened to Primary 6 , Jss 3 and Ss3 students.

Briefing newsmen she said, “the State Action Committee on COVID-19 will further meet with the Ministry of Education to work out modalities on protocols to be observed and a date for the re-opening of schools agreed on.”

Schools across the nation have been closed since 21st March 2020 as part of measures to curb the COVID-19 pandemic.

She also made public that the SEC has approved a Public Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement for the management of the Makurdi Mordern Market.

She said the scheme would be done with adequate diligence to know those Interested in the partnership and those with the capacity for the partnership.

Briefing newsmen she also said,  “the Council also approved a request for the 2019 and 2020 International Fund for Agricultural Development, IFAD, Assisted Rice and Cassava Value Chain Development Programme intervention.”

She said the Benue State is committed to funding for farmers in Rice and cassava, stating that the Benue State Government would pay it’s counterpart funds in part of the programme.
