Senate Urge Federal Government to rename Airport after Ex-governor.

The Nigerian Senate have urged the Federal Government to name the Ibadan airport in Oyo State after late Abiola Ajimobi, former governor of the state.

The Senate also resolved to send a delegation to the family of the deceased.

This resolutions were as a result of a sponsored motion by Abdulfatai Buhari, the senator representing Oyo North.

The former governor died in First Cardiology Consultants Hospital, Ikoyi Lagos aged 70 over COVID-19 related illness.

Moving the motion the senator said late Abiola Ajimobi was a senator in the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 2003.

He said, “He was a Principal Officer in the Senate, serving as the Deputy Minority Leader, He contested the governorship election under the umbrella of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) in 2007 but lost”.

“He contested again in 2011 under the All Progressives Congress (APC) and was elected in a keenly contested election”.

“As the incumbent, he contested for a second term in an election that took place on April 11, 2015 under the APC against two of his predecessors in office”.

“In the event of his re-election into office as the governor, he achieved a remarkable feat by becoming the first person to occupy the highest seat twice,”

Former Ogun state Governor, the senator representing Ogun Central, Senator Ibikunle Amosun supporting the motion said the former governor was loved by the Oyo people and also loved his people.

The upper legislative chamber then adopted the motion after it was put to a voice vote by Senate President Ahmad Lawan.
