No School Would Participate in WAEC – Adamu

The Federal Government has reversed it’s earlier announcement of schools resumption saying federal government schools across the country won’t open for the WASSCE.

The examination which was earlier postponed from March indefinitely over coronavirus restrictions.

But the Minister of state for education Emeka Nwajuiba had announced that the examinations would take place from August 4 to September 5 2020.

But speaking to state house correspondents at thr end of the 7th Virtual National Executive Meeting, the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu said the schools won’t reopen soon stating it wasn’t safe to do so due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

He also urged state governments that have announced dates for school resumption to rescind from such thoughts.

He said the West African Examination Council (WAEC) could not determine the date of school resumption. He also noted that he would prefer students to loose an academic year than expose them to health hazards amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Minister also said that final year students (primary 6, JSS3 and SS3) would not be allowed to resume as contrary to earlier announcements.
