Barcelona should pursue for the signature of Neymar ahead of Lautaro to allow club captain Lionel Messi “take a rest”, this was said by former Barcelona player Rivaldo.
Lautaro Martinez has become a top target for European clubs which Barcelona tops, after having an impressive with Inter Milan scoring 17 goals in 37 matches.
But Rivaldo says the club should sign his fellow compatriot ahead of the 22 year old Argentine, Martinez.
The La Liga champions missed out on paying the release clause of the Inter Milan striker of €111 million (£99m/$125m) which expired on Tuesday.
The Paris Saint German player has showed strong interest in returning back to the club, with readiness to borrow the club part of his transfer fee last season.
But if the signing of Lautaro goes through, the possibility of the Brazilian retracing his stepps to his former club would become more unlikely.
However, Blaugrana president Josep Bartomeu has insisted that the financial implications of the coronavirus outbreak will make it very difficult for such a move to materialise.
Rivaldo is adamant that his old club should still be going all out to bring back the man they sold for a world record €222m (£199m/$251m) fee in 2017, with it his belief that Lautaro would be worse value for money now that Inter can increase their valuation.
The Barca legend also thinks Neymar’s presence would help ease the pressure on Messi as he enters the latter stages of his career.
