Lagos State Government Insures Street Sweepers.

The Lagos State government has begun an insurance policy for street Sweepers under the Lagos Waste Management Authority, LAWMA.

The Acting Managing Director LAWMA Ibrahim Odumboni said this policy was implemented under the “LAWMA CEO” scheme.

The Acting Managing Director said the insurance policy would cover death while in active service, permanent disability, and medical expenses among others.

He explained that the agency recently, embarked upon a holistic audit exercise of sweepers in the State and one important takeaway from the exercise is the need to pay a premium on the welfare and well-being of the sweepers, who undoubtedly, are critically important as front liners in the management of waste and ensuring that Lagos and its environment remains clean.

Odumboni said, “LAWMA has made a resolve and unequivocally so, that the primary focus and the mandate of the authority in managing and regulation of waste will not be compromised, deploying the best global practices in achieving same, in line with the “THEMES” agenda of the state Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-olu in achieving a cleaner and healthier environment and the general well being of Lagosians.”
